THE EDGE ("the App") is operated by BEYOND EXPERIMENTAL ("we", "us"). Contact: hello@theedge.app. We are the data controller for the personal information described below.
A random string generated in your browser/app on first launch and stored locally. Used only to enforce per-device guest rate limits before you create an account. It is NOT a hardware fingerprint and cannot identify you across devices, accounts, or apps.
If you enable push notifications, we store a Web Push subscription endpoint plus the public encryption keys required to deliver notifications to your device. We do not store the device's private push key. You can disable push at any time from your iOS Settings or in-app Settings, and the subscription is automatically removed after several failed deliveries.
The App captures unhandled exceptions to help us fix bugs. An error report contains: error class, error message, stack trace, the URL where it happened, app version, an optional anonymized profile id, an optional session id, your user agent, and any structured "extra" context the code emits. Error reports are pruned after 30 days. We do NOT capture your screen, keystrokes, location, contacts, photos, or any prediction content.
If you grant analytics consent, we collect coarse feature-usage events (e.g. "board loaded", "prediction completed", "tab switched") to improve the product. No identifiers leave your device that aren't already in your profile (handle, anonymized profile id). You can decline at the consent banner or revoke later from in-app Settings; on revoke, no further events are sent and existing events stay in our database for at most 30 days before pruning.
The App tracks your simulated bankroll balance, every prediction stake, every settled wager, and every milestone crossing in a per-account ledger. No real money is processed by THE EDGE — the in-app currency is virtual coins with no cash value. Real-money payments for the optional Pro subscription are processed exclusively by Apple via the App Store; we never receive your payment credentials.
If you are on the free tier, you will see an interstitial advertisement after every third prediction (after the 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th, ... lifetime prediction). Pro subscribers see no ads.
Ads are served via Google AdMob in non-personalized mode — AdMob receives only minimal information about your device (model, OS version, app version, country) and the ad context. AdMob does NOT receive your handle, profile, prediction history, bankroll, or any account-linked identifier. We do not show the iOS App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt because we do not request the IDFA. Disable ads entirely by subscribing to Pro from in-app Settings.
Once you tap "Delete Account" in Settings, your profile and all associated state are permanently deleted from our database in real time — no anonymization stub, no orphan rows. While your account is active, the table-level retention windows below apply automatically:

THE EDGE is hosted on Fly.io (United States, Newark NJ region) and uses Supabase (United States) as its profile database. Tournament + match data is stored in Fly.io's persistent storage. Backup snapshots are written every 6 hours to the same persistent volume. We do not transfer your data outside the United States. If you are outside the United States, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States; by using the App you consent to that transfer.
You have the right to access, correct, port, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Email hello@theedge.app with the subject "GDPR request" — we respond within 30 days. The legal basis for our processing is contract performance (account + Pro subscription) and legitimate interest (security + product improvement).
You have the right to know what we collect, the right to delete, the right to correct, and the right to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. THE EDGE does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Email hello@theedge.app with the subject "CCPA request".
THE EDGE is rated 17+ on the App Store. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 17. If we become aware that we have collected data from a person under 17, we will delete it. Parents who believe their child has signed up may email hello@theedge.app.
PINs are stored as one-way scrypt or pbkdf2 hashes. Network traffic between the iOS app and our servers uses HTTPS with current TLS configurations. Database backups are encrypted at rest by the cloud provider. We do not access your PIN — if you forget it, the only path is to delete and re-create the account.
The App makes outbound requests to: (a) Apple App Store for in-app purchase receipt validation; (b) Sackmann GitHub + public sports-data sources for tournament + match results (no user data is sent — only match queries); (c) Wikipedia for player photos; (d) Google AdMob for interstitial advertisements on the free tier (non-personalized mode — see Section 2.7 for what AdMob receives). Pro subscribers do not contact AdMob at all. None of these third parties receive your account data, prediction history, bankroll, or other linked identifiers. We do not embed any analytics SDK or social SDK in the App.
If we materially change this policy, we will post the new version with an updated "Last updated" date and surface an in-app notice. Continued use of the App after the new version takes effect is your acceptance.
